I will be travelling to Costa Rica for a month over the summer to teach at the University of Costa Rica and to conduct some research. I am looking for a Penn State undergraduate or graduate student who¹d like to go with me and serve as a teaching assistant to the course and a research assistant to me. My class and research focus on information technologies and disaster response systems.

Must be a student in good standing with excellent grades and well recommended. Must be comfortable in large, international city environments. Must have an interest and facility with information technologies and social media. Must like kids (mine are coming with me).

Job Description: In June and early July the student would help me gather materials for the class, prepare lesson materials and translate everything into Spanish. These materials would be made ready via Angel for the Costa Rican Students. This could happen from anywhere (distance, part-time work). We would travel to Costa Rica around July 19th. The student would attend 16 3-hour classes, 4 each week for 4 weeks (Monday through Thursday). The student would assist me in the classroom and with some material management. The student would also conduct several key research interviews. The student would return around August 17th.

Data Privacy Legal Hackathon

A Data Privacy Legal Hackathon is being held in NYC Feb 8-9.

Here are details:

"The Legal Hackers community invites you to compete in a 24-hour hackathon to create tools that solve common legal problems in the field of data privacy.

2013 was a landmark year in the public's awareness of problems in data privacy. Edward Snowden, revenge porn, do-not-track, COPPA, and a few other key phrases come to mind. The new issues surrounding data privacy seem to steadily increase as the Internet of things continues to grow.

Legal hackers across the country have addressed data-privacy problems but have yet to develop actual tools to effectively address them. Join us and 100 fellow legal hackers in New York City as we compete to concept and deliver these tools under extreme time constraints."
