Registration is now open for the February 19, 2015 (2:00PM to 8:00PM) Intelligence Community (IC) Virtual Career Fair.  Those interested will be able to explore career opportunities, chat with recruiters and subject matter experts, and learn how to apply for job openings. IST Future Forum – Thursday, Jan 29, 2015 – 10 am to  4 pm  Please encourage students to participate.  We have 40 companies coming to IST to recruit students for internships and fulltime positions.

Competitions:

Deloitte National  Case Competition – Teams of 4, freshmen through juniors with a 3.3 GPA or higher.  Apply by Jan 30, 2015.  Chance to win an expense paid trip to compete at the National level at Deloitte University in Texas

Deloitte IST  Case Competition – Teams of 2 to 4, sophomores and juniors with a 3.3 GPA or higher.  Apply by Feb 6, 2015 in Compass.  Chance to win cash prizes.

Deloitte Cyber Threat Competition – All students with a 3.2 GPA or higher.  Apply in person at the  kick-off event on Wednesday, January 28.  Details can be found in Compass.

Workshops for Students:

Johnson & Johnson Future Leaders Program – Freshmen & sophomores.  This is a set of three professional development  workshops and excel training sessions.  Students can find additional information in Compass and need to apply to participate by January 30, 2015. President Obama on Privacy

He mentioned several new steps for privacy protection: 

1. Introducing new legislation to create a single, strong national standard so Americans know when their information has been stolen or misused. Companies would have to notify consumers of a breach within 30 days. 

2. Encouraging more companies to offer credit reports for free.

3. Introducing a consumer privacy bill of rights, identifying principles to protect personal privacy and ensure that industry can keep innovating. For example, consumers have the right to decide what personal data companies collect from them, and how companies use that data. The right to know that your personal information collected for one purpose can’t then be misused by a company for a different purpose. The right to have your information stored securely by companies that are accountable for its use. There ought to be some basic baseline protections across industries. 

4. Taking a series of actions to protect the privacy of children. Proposing student digital privacy act. Data collected on students in the classroom should only be used for educational purposes, to teach our children, not to market to our children. Prevent companies from selling student data to third parties for purposes other than education. Prevent any kind of profiling that outs certain students as disadvantages as they go through school.

IST Seminar on Human Trafficking

The College of Information Sciences and Technology is sponsoring a seminar on Human Trafficking to help raise awareness of the growing human trafficking problem in Pennsylvania and launch a dialogue on issues related to sex trafficking and strategies for prevention, intervention, and interdiction. The 2^nd National Women in Cybersecurity conference will be held on March 27-28, Atlanta, GA.

With support from National Science Foundation, Award #1303441 (Capacity Building in Cybersecurity: Broadening Participation of Women In Cybersecurity through the Women in Cybersecurity Conference and Professional Development), WiCyS is an effort to bring together women (students/faculty/researchers/professionals) in cybersecurity from academia, research and industry for sharing of knowledge/experience, networking and mentoring. Any individual or organization interested in supporting recruiting and retention efforts for women in cybersecurity is encouraged to participate.

Limited number of WiCyS scholarships will be given out to students and faculty. Scholarship recipients will receive free shared lodging, meals for a reduced subsidized registration fee of $25 for students and $50 for faculty. Deadline for scholarship application is December 15^th . Acceptance notification is January 5.

We have limited capacity of 500 attendees: 50% students (at all college levels), 25% educators, 25% professionals.

 The WiCyS conference  will offer:

I work for CSC, a multinational IT/professional services provider. We have a program that was recently created that incentivizes employees to refer candidates for open positions. To participate in this program, I wanted to reach out to some of the professors that had taught me at Penn State and see if they had any students that were looking for a way to build their career with any of our open positions. Attached is a spreadsheet I created that lists some open, entry-level, college-graduate experience positions that I found utilizing our company job portal. All of these positions are within our North American Public Sector (NPS), which provides services to a variety of different government clients. I hope all is going well back in State College! I frequently reminisce upon my many good memories there.
